Savannah Golf CourseIf you would like to play in your own backyard, Savannah has a few wonderful golf communities for you to choose from. The Landings is probably a frequent golfer’s top choice with six 18-hole championship courses set on beautiful Skidaway Island and featuring tree-lined fairways and marsh views. The Landings is a private, gated community and access to the courses requires membership at The Landings Club or members can bring guests. The Deer Creek course, designed by Tom Fazio, was ranked as one of “America’s Best Top 100 Residential Courses” by Golfweek Magazine. Other courses in The Landings were designed by Arnold Palmer, Arthur Hills and Willard Byrd and each provide a unique and challenging game. Southbridge and Henderson Golf Club, located west and southwest of downtown Savannah respectively are golf communities that offer residents optional membership or daily green fees.

The Club at Savannah Harbor is a definitely a must play for enthusiasts. It was named in the “Top 60 Golf Resorts in the United States” by Conde Nast Traveler and given four stars by Golf Digest. The course is located at the Westin on Hutchinson Island which is across the Savannah River from the Historic District. You can even catch a glimpse of River Street from some parts of the course. Drive over the Talmadge Bridge or take a ferry boat from River Street, and experience this immaculately maintained, challenging course designed by Bob Cupp and Sam Snead. The Club is also home to the PGA Tour’s Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament.

Bacon Park Golf Course is a public course owned by the City of Savannah and located conveniently in Midtown Savannah. The course was designed by Donald Ross in 1926 and is currently being revitalized back to the original design. With three nine-hole courses, golfers can pick and choose to create three unique 18-hole courses. The facility also offers a clubhouse with snack bar, pro shop and locker rooms, a driving range and both putting and chipping greens with sand trap. Green fees are very reasonable and clinics and private lessons are also available.

Another notable course is located just minutes from the Savannah International Airport. The Crosswinds Golf Club offers a traditional 18-hole championship course with an open, tree-lined layout without neighboring homes to worry a newer golfer. Crosswinds also features a nine-hole par 3 course that is lighted for play at night.

With all of these options located right in Savannah, it would take a while to get acquainted with all of our local courses, but if you love to try new things, a short drive to Effingham County, Bluffton or Richmond Hill will offer dozens more new courses to try.
