Savannah Events Calendar – December 2017

Get into the holiday spirit with a holiday celebration on River Street. Rousakis Plaza will be full of regional arts & crafts exhibitors with holiday gifts and stocking stuffers to check off of your Christmas list. Music and local entertainment will take place on the Arbor Stage all weekend long. Don’t miss Savannah’s Lighted Christmas Parade, which marks the official arrival of St. Nick. This is one event you don’t want to miss. Weekend festivities are free and open to the public.

Savannah’s beautiful spirit becomes even more exquisite during the holiday season, and City Market is no exception. Stroll in the flickering light of 500+ luminaria lining our two-block courtyard, serenaded by Christmas carolers. Drop in for treats in City Market shops and watch for a glimpse of Father Christmas.

You are invited to partake in the festive Island spirit as Mayor Buelterman lights the Christmas tree at the Roundabout. F

ollowing the lighting ceremony, the choir – led by performers with the Tybee Arts Performing Society will lead you from the tree to the steps of Historic Carbo House for holiday entertainment and good ole’ fashioned singalongs.

Ready, set, GO! Take a single trip over Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge. The race starts on Hutchinson Island so participants can either park at the Trade Center, ride the water ferry, or take our complimentary trolley shuttle from the Civic Center parking lot. Once you finish, celebrate on Broughton St. at our Michelob Ultra Post-Race Party, presented by Host South.

Make ornaments! Decorate cookies! Get Grinched (with hair and makeup)! Meet Father Christmas and take a Cinderella carriage tour. All of this, plus face painting, choir music and more add up to a day of fun the whole family can truly enjoy.

The holiday season is a special time of year on Tybee and this parade has become a tradition that highlights the small town charm you only find here. The parade begins at 1:00pm from the 14th Street parking lot (behind Hotel Tybee) and travels up Tybrisa to Butler Avenue then to the Tybee Gym where children will have photo time with Santa! The Tybee YMCA will have surprises for all to enjoy at the gym.

The Merchants’ around Wright Square stay open late for locals and tourists alike to come out and shop in a festive holiday environment. Many shops will have treats and specials this night as well. A great chance to support local owned shops while having a wonderful time around Wright Square.

It’s that special time of year, and the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will joyously perform classical gems and holiday favorites sure to get you in the spirit of the season. ATC Gold Medalist Julie Benko, the featured soloist, will wow you with her vocal virtuosity. It’s a performance not to be missed! For families, especially with younger children, our one-hour Holiday Pops Family Matinee is a must! The kids will hear the Savannah Children’s Choir along with the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra, and there will be opportunities to sing along, clap along, and be a part of all the fun. Keep your eyes out for Santa!
